It has been an exciting and fruitful 3 months and the participation of all members has made being President of this great club an honour.

Our regular Wednesday meetings continue to  turn in good  numbers and our dinners are  enjoyable and the staff are very helpful and assist whenever we ask.    

The Bookshop is now off and running and the team are thinking of having "Book Sales"

each month.     Fundraising from these sales is continuing to grow and this then follows

on to making more  donations.     Funds have also been raised through the Super Sunset

Series barbeques.

From these fundraisers, in the last 3 months, we have made the following donations -

 

Inner City Health	$1250
Cystic Fibrosis	$2000
Motor Neurone	$3000
Local Primary School Awards	$1500

And various other smaller donations.

Our guest speakers have been first class - last week David Molyneux from Prison Friendship Victoria and next week Paul Dwyer from the Australian Brandenberg Orchestra.     Well done speakers group.

We have inducted 5 new members with another propospective member to be inducted

in the next fortnight.

I would like to wish  members who are attending the District Conference in Perth a very enjoyable stay. I have no doubt it will be most rewarding for all attendees.  

We have a busy exciting 4 months coming up and I would encourage all members to participate in the events that are being organized.     Please attend your Committee meetings and get to have your say in the running of the Club   

We are pleased to advise that we have secured Paul Dyer as speaker on 3 March.  Paul, as you may be aware, is the founder and  Director of the Australian Brandenburg Orchestra (ABO).   The ABO is expanding its concert series into Melbourne now that the new Recital Hall is available.

Last week we had David Molyneux  Executive Director of Prison Fellowship Victoria speak at out meeting.

David spoke about Prison Fellowship Victoria how it engages with and provides support, friendship, mentoring and pastoral care for prisoners, ex prisioners, their families and others affected by crime.

David also brought along Sean Wood a graduate of the Prison program who is putting his life back together. Sean spoke of the program the way it turned his life around and how confident he now is to live a normal life.

Prison Fellowship has a presence in all 14 prisons in Victoria. At the core of their service provision is the team of 260 dedicated volunteers, men and women, who visit prisoners across the State.  They provide friendship, mentoring and pastoral care support for prisoners.  Volunteers give more than 3,000 hours throughout the year in this service.

We would like to thank both David Molyneux and Sean Wood for their time and presentation on this topic it was most interesting and informative and wish them both further success in the future.

The event commences with registration and a sausage sizzle at 11.30am with a 12.30pm tee off and concludes with a 2 course dinner at 6.30pm. The evening is planned to finish at 8.00pm.

Funds raised will be directed to The Cancer Council to honour the efforts of Michael Mitchell who spent 12 months walking 6000kms from the tip of Cape York to Wilsons Promontory - see www.michaelmitchell.com.au   further information.

Encourage local businesses to offer education opportunities for employees.
